Northern Colorado women’s basketball secured its first Big Sky Conference win of the season by defeating Montana at Bank of Colorado Arena. The game started with Montana taking an early lead, hitting three three-pointers in the opening quarter and forcing Northern Colorado to call a timeout. Despite this, Heather Baymon and Gabi Fields helped keep the Bears close, even as they faced early foul trouble. By the end of the first quarter, Montana led 21–16.
The second quarter was closely contested. Fields scored quickly for Northern Colorado, narrowing the gap to one possession. The Bears focused on offensive rebounds and took advantage of second-chance points, while Aniah Hall contributed several strong finishes inside. However, Montana maintained a slim 39–37 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, Northern Colorado began to take control through efficient offense and key shots. A run allowed them to go up 48–44 before extending their lead further and forcing Montana into a timeout. Contributions from Fields and Baymon increased UNC’s advantage to 58–46 by the end of the period.
Baymon continued her strong performance in the fourth quarter by making seven three-pointers—setting a new career high—and finished with a personal best 29 points in total. Northern Colorado maintained its composure late in the game, making important defensive stops to secure their victory.
With this result, Northern Colorado improved its overall record to 10–5 and moved to 1–1 in conference play.
After this win, Northern Colorado will begin its first conference road trip with games against Idaho State in Pocatello and Weber State in Ogden.
