Northern Colorado athletes delivered strong performances on the second day of the Colorado Classic in Boulder, achieving event wins and setting new marks within the program’s history at the CU Indoor Practice Facility.
Daniel Beckford led the men’s team with a victory in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 7.83 seconds to improve his standing as second all-time at UNC. He also secured seventh place in the 60-meter final with a time of 6.88, tying for seventh on UNC’s historical list. Rayvon Walkin joined Beckford in the hurdles final, placing fifth.
In men’s sprints, Raphael Egbuchilem finished sixth in the 200 meters with a personal best of 21.57 seconds, matching the seventh-best time in school history. Edgar Garcia followed closely behind in seventh place.
The women’s team also saw notable results, particularly in hurdles and middle-distance events. Alexia Austin won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.57 seconds. Sherika Thomas took third place at 8.76 seconds, tying for seventh on UNC’s all-time chart, while Donice Bruno-Ezealah reached the final as well.
Monique Stewart claimed victory in the women’s 800 meters with a time of 2:09.88, improving her own mark as third-fastest in program history. Caydence Brewer placed sixth in the women’s 400 meters, and Claire Nowels posted the eighth-fastest performance ever by a Bear in the women’s 5,000 meters.
Northern Colorado concluded its day with steady showings across relay and distance events as competition continued at the meet.
Looking ahead, Northern Colorado will compete next weekend at the Don Kirby Elite hosted by University of New Mexico at Albuquerque Convention Center from February 13-14.
