Congressman Gabe Evans has recently used his social media platform to comment on sanctuary city policies and to commemorate Presidents Day.
On February 20, 2026, Evans stated, “When sanctuary cities release criminals instead of turning them over to ICE, enforcement doesn’t stop — it moves into neighborhoods. ICE then has to track them down instead of picking them up in jail. Sanctuary policies don’t reduce ICE presence. They increase it.”
The following day, on February 21, 2026, he posted, “Sanctuary cities put soft-on-crime policies over public safety. When state Democrats block cooperation with ICE, dangerous offenders walk free and Coloradans pay the price.”
On February 22, 2026, Evans honored a historical figure with the post: “Today we honor President George Washington — the father of our nation, whose leadership, courage, and sacrifice laid the foundation for the United States. “
Sanctuary city policies refer to local or state government measures that limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities such as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). These policies have been a point of contention in national debates regarding immigration enforcement and public safety. Supporters argue they foster trust between immigrant communities and law enforcement by reducing fear of deportation for minor offenses; critics claim they impede federal efforts to detain individuals accused or convicted of crimes.
Evans represents Colorado in Congress and has previously voiced opposition to laws restricting local cooperation with federal immigration agencies.
