Four student-athletes from the Northern Colorado women’s basketball team were named to the Academic All-District Team, according to a March 24 announcement by College Sports Communicators.
The recognition highlights student-athletes who excel both academically and athletically. The award requires nominees to have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 and meet specific athletic participation standards, demonstrating the balance between classroom achievement and sports performance.
Gabi Fields, a graduate student guard with a 3.86 GPA from Brownfield, Texas, was recognized for her contributions as a facilitator on the court. She finished tied for third in program history in games played (127) and ranks second in games started (126). Fields is also tied for ninth in single-season games played (34), tied for fourth in single-season starts (34), sits second all-time in career steals with 259, and ranks fifth in single season assists with 123.
Heather Baymon, a sophomore guard from Phoenix, Arizona with a 3.61 GPA, provided scoring off the bench and helped UNC rank among the top ten nationally in bench scoring. Baymon scored a career-high 29 points against Montana and made seven three-pointers in one game. She also received Big Sky All-Conference Honorable Mention honors.
Erin Powell, a sophomore forward from New Hampshire, England holding a 3.74 GPA, started all 34 games this season while contributing on both ends of the floor with consistent defense and tallying 144 points overall.
Ruthie Loomis-Goltl is a sophomore forward from Bridgeport, Nebraska who appeared in 31 games this year while maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. Loomis-Goltl contributed through rebounding efforts and physical play inside.
The program’s selections underscore its ongoing commitment to success both academically and athletically.
