Congressman Gabe Evans used his social media platform on March 28 and 29, 2026, to criticize Democratic lawmakers regarding Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding and Colorado’s budget shortfall. Evans’ posts focused on votes in Congress and fiscal challenges facing the state.

On March 28, Evans wrote: “203 Democrats voted against reopening the Department of Homeland Security and restoring pay for frontline personnel. They never stopped being the party of open borders and defunding the police. The so-called Senate DHS funding compromise includes this language: ‘U.S. Customs'”.

Later that day, he added: “Not one cent actually appropriated. Thoughts and prayers only. We should think about paying DHS, TSA, ICE, CBP, FEMA, CISA, and the Coast Guard. That is what House Resolution 1128 said. 187 Democrats couldn’t even send thoughts and prayers to our Homeland Security”.

On March 29, Evans shifted focus to Colorado’s finances: “CO is facing a $1B budget shortfall, and one program alone is projected to cost over 6x more than expected. When taxpayer-funded programs explode in cost like this, it puts pressure on services that American families, seniors, and vulnerable citizens rely on. CO taxpayers”.

Colorado has recently faced growing concerns over its state budget due to higher-than-anticipated expenditures in certain public programs—a trend that can affect core services such as education or health care for residents.

Evans represents Colorado’s 8th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives.
