Congressman Gabe Evans used his social media platform to address concerns about funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its impact on frontline personnel, including TSA agents and emergency responders.
On March 26, 2026, Evans stated: “Today, I voted to stand with the men and women of the Department of Homeland Security — the frontline personnel who protect our country every single day. This resolution makes one thing clear: DHS must be fully funded and fully operational. Partial funding weakens coordination,” he wrote.
Later that same day, Evans commented on a legislative vote regarding pay for federal employees: “Today, 206 Democrats voted against the Pay Our Homeland Defenders Act — legislation that would fully fund the salaries of TSA agents and other frontline personnel who have now gone 41 days without a paycheck. For nearly two months, TSA officers and federal law enforcement have” he posted.
On March 27, 2026, Evans highlighted concerns specific to Colorado’s wildfire preparedness: “CO is heading into wildfire season during a historic drought. But emergency responders are missing training because DHS isn’t fully funded. I’ve fought wildfires as a Blackhawk pilot, I know that preparedness saves lives — and right now, that preparedness is being undermined.”
Evans represents Colorado in Congress and has previously served as a Blackhawk pilot. His comments come amid ongoing debates in Congress over government funding bills affecting federal agencies such as DHS. The discussion around these issues has been heightened by recent budget disputes that have led to partial government shutdowns or lapses in agency funding in past years.
