Congressman Gabe Evans of Colorado’s 8th District issued a statement following the launch of Operation Epic Fury, a U.S. military operation aimed at dismantling Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
Evans described the Iranian regime as having “terrorized its own people and supported terrorist groups that killed Americans and our allies” for nearly five decades. He noted that diplomatic efforts by the United States to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions were unsuccessful. “Repeated efforts from the U.S. to negotiate in good faith and halt the expansion of Iran’s nuclear weapons program were met with deception and defiance, as the radical regime rejected every opportunity for peace,” Evans stated.
He expressed support for Operation Epic Fury, calling it “a necessary step to eliminate Iran’s nuclear weapon capabilities, eliminate imminent threats to the United States and our allies, and defend our core national security interests.” According to Evans, the United States has backing from Middle Eastern allies and aims to assist in liberating Iranians from their government.
“As a U.S. Army combat veteran, I know the weight of these decisions. I am praying for every brave American service member carrying out this mission as they risk their lives to ensure the safety and longevity of our country and our allies across the world,” said Evans.
The announcement comes after increased tensions between Iran and Western nations. The press release highlighted recent repression within Iran, noting that last month saw significant violence against protesters demanding human rights. Thousands reportedly faced mass killings, arrests, and intimidation by authorities under Supreme Leader Khamenei.
The statement also referenced Operation Midnight Hammer from June of last year, which targeted parts of Iran’s weapons infrastructure in response to threats against U.S. personnel and partners in the region. Despite these actions, Iranian leadership continued advancing its nuclear program while supporting proxy attacks.
Diplomatic talks over several months failed to secure an agreement on dismantling Iran’s nuclear weapons development efforts. The statement concluded with criticism of Khamenei’s regime: “There is no place for Khamenei’s authoritarian regime or its proxy terrorism in this world. Iran has undermined peace in the Middle East and across the globe, and we are going to work with our allies to ensure safety and freedom for all.”
