Hillcrest Care Center received a perfect overall rating of 5 out of 5 for the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported. This is above the Colorado nursing home average of 3.2.
The facility provided 45 beds, which is 49 fewer than the state average for nursing homes at the beginning of 2026. It cared for an average of 40 residents throughout that period.
During the first quarter of 2026, Hillcrest Care Center incurred a total of $25,406 in four fines and received four penalties.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates show that the country’s older adult population is rising as numbers of younger age groups wane. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, while the under-18 population decreased by 1.7%. The nation’s population of seniors has surged in the past hundred years, climbing from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.
A 2021 analysis finds that nearly half of older adults, or about 28 million, might need long-term services and supports. Over a third of this group is expected to eventually require nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
