Northern Colorado baseball defeated South Dakota State 19-2 on April 25, evening the series on the road.
The game was marked by a strong offensive showing from Northern Colorado, which scored eight runs in the first inning. Ethan Sanchez contributed three hits, three runs, and two runs batted in. Brandon Sanchez also had a productive day at the plate with three hits and four runs batted in, including a two-run double during the opening frame.
The Bears continued their scoring in the fourth inning, sending 15 hitters to bat and adding ten more runs. Wilson Kieffer hit a two-run single and Sam Pease drove in two more as part of his three-hit performance. Mason Griffin added two hits and two runs batted in, while Ethan Mooser contributed three more runs batted in for Northern Colorado.
Pitcher Jake Storey earned the win after allowing just two runs over four innings with four strikeouts. Jax Pfister pitched two scoreless innings and Mac Hibben finished with a clean seventh inning. The Bears’ pitching staff limited South Dakota State to seven hits and kept errors off the board defensively.
Northern Colorado will play South Dakota State again as they look to secure their third consecutive series victory.
