Northern Colorado lost both games of a doubleheader against New Mexico at Lobo Baseball Field on Saturday. The Bears were shut out 6–0 in the first game and narrowly lost 6–5 in the second.
In the opener, Northern Colorado struggled offensively, managing only three hits. Jake Bullard led with a double, while Jaden Stone and Logan Pruski each contributed singles. The team left six runners on base and had just one opportunity with runners in scoring position.
Reece Wagner started for the Bears and took the loss after pitching three innings. Gus Allred came out of the bullpen for 4.1 innings, striking out eight batters and allowing two runs. Cade Kunz finished the game with two strikeouts in less than an inning. New Mexico scored twice in both the second and third innings to take an early lead, adding two more runs in the eighth.
The final statistics from game one showed New Mexico with nine hits to Northern Colorado’s three, and neither team committed an error.
In game two, Northern Colorado improved at the plate, collecting 14 hits. Jake Bullard and Zeke Minic each had four hits; Minic drove in two runs with a double. Easton Bryant contributed two RBIs and hit a triple, while Logan Pruski added another RBI.
After trailing 3–0 through four innings, Northern Colorado scored twice in the fifth and added three more runs in the sixth to briefly take a 5–3 lead. New Mexico responded with three runs in their half of the sixth inning to regain control.
Jake Storey started for Northern Colorado, pitching 5.1 innings with five strikeouts while giving up four runs. Logan Borboa pitched the remaining 2.2 innings out of relief.
Despite their late offensive surge, Northern Colorado went 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position and stranded 15 runners on base.
Game two ended with Northern Colorado committing one error alongside New Mexico; both teams tallied nine hits apiece for New Mexico and fourteen for Northern Colorado.
The Bears will attempt to avoid a sweep when they play New Mexico again on Sunday at noon Mountain Time.
