Northern Colorado baseball lost to North Dakota State 4-3 in the first game of their series at Jackson Field on April 10. The Bears took an early lead but were unable to hold off a late rally by the Bison.
The outcome is important for both teams as it sets the tone for the rest of the series and could influence standings as conference play continues.
Northern Colorado started strong, scoring two runs in the first inning with Logan Pruski’s RBI single that brought home Brett Barber and Jaden Stone. The Bears extended their lead in the fourth when Ethan Mooser hit a triple, followed by a sacrifice fly from Zeke Minic to make it 3-0. Pitcher Reece Wagner kept Northern Colorado ahead through seven innings, allowing only two runs and striking out eleven batters.
North Dakota State narrowed the gap with a run in the fifth and a solo home run in the sixth. In the eighth inning, another home run tied the game before NDSU took its first lead with a go-ahead solo shot in the ninth. Barber, Stone, and Pruski each had multiple hits for Northern Colorado.
The Bears will look to even up the series tomorrow at Jackson Field, where Military Appreciation Day will also be observed during Saturday’s game.
