Northern Colorado baseball lost to Omaha in the final game of their series after a late comeback by the Mavericks at Jackson Field on May 3.
The game was marked by high scoring, with both teams combining for 23 runs and 28 hits. The lead changed several times before Omaha secured the win in the ninth inning.
Omaha began with a two-run home run, but Northern Colorado responded quickly. The Bears scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning, with Logan Pruski, Mason Griffin, Easton Bryant, and Sam Pease each driving in runs. They continued to add pressure in the third inning when Brandon Sanchez hit an RBI double and Pruski drove in another run to make it 8-3.
Despite Northern Colorado adding more runs in the fifth and sixth innings through hits from Jaden Stone and Ethan Mooser, Omaha narrowed the gap by taking advantage of defensive errors. In the ninth inning, Omaha scored three runs on two hits to take a 12-10 lead.
Northern Colorado attempted a comeback in their final at-bat. They loaded the bases and scored once on a balk but could not tie or retake the lead. Griffin led offensively for Northern Colorado with three hits and two runs scored; Pruski had two hits and reached base four times; Sanchez also contributed multiple hits as part of an offense that drew thirteen walks.
The Bears will next play North Dakota State from May 8 to May 10 in Fargo. The program encourages support through its Diamond Club initiative, which helps fund facility improvements like Jackson Field Turf Project as well as daily operations for student-athletes.
