Northern Colorado baseball rallied to a 9-6 victory over South Dakota State in the series opener at Jackson Field, according to a March 27 announcement. The Bears overcame an early five-run deficit on Friday afternoon.
The game saw Northern Colorado trailing 5-0 after three innings before Ethan Sanchez hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the third, narrowing the gap and shifting momentum. In the fourth inning, Brandon Sanchez contributed an RBI double and Sam Pease followed with a two-run home run, giving the Bears a 7-5 lead.
Mason Griffin added to the lead with a solo home run in the sixth inning and later hit an RBI double in the eighth. Griffin finished with three hits and two runs batted in. Pease recorded two hits and two RBIs as well.
On the pitching side, Reece Wagner pitched six innings with seven strikeouts to earn the win while Trevor Landen closed out the final three innings for a save. The team collected twelve hits overall and scored runs across four different innings.
Looking ahead, Northern Colorado will continue its series against South Dakota State this weekend at Jackson Field, with first pitch scheduled for noon Mountain Daylight Time.
