Northern Colorado baseball defeated Air Force 5-4 in a midweek game at Jackson Field, according to an April 28 announcement. The Bears used a strong third inning and steady relief pitching to secure the win on their home field.
The result is important for Northern Colorado as they look to build momentum heading into conference play later in the week. The victory came after the Bears scored four runs in the third inning, including solo home runs by Logan Pruski and Jake Bullard. Ethan Mooser and Brien Kenny added RBI plays that gave Northern Colorado an early lead.
Air Force responded with a solo home run in the fourth, but Northern Colorado’s bullpen held off further advances through most of the game. Mason Bright earned the win with two innings of relief, allowing just one run. Overall, Bears pitchers combined for eight strikeouts while limiting Air Force to four runs on eight hits.
Mooser contributed another RBI single in the seventh inning for what proved to be a key insurance run, extending Northern Colorado’s lead to 5-1. The Falcons closed the gap late by scoring twice in the eighth and once more in the ninth before Mitch Haythorn recorded his first save of the season by securing the final outs with runners on base.
Mooser led all batters with two hits and two RBIs; Pruski and Bullard each hit home runs, while Mason Griffin scored twice and pressured Air Force defensively throughout. The team will continue its homestand this weekend when it hosts Omaha for a three-game Summit League series.
The program also highlighted its Diamond Club initiative supporting facility improvements like Jackson Field’s turf project as well as enhanced technology for student-athletes.
