Northern Colorado baseball defeated North Dakota State, 10-4, in the opening game of their weekend series on May 8 at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo.
The victory was marked by a strong offensive showing from Northern Colorado, which recorded 14 hits and took advantage of errors by North Dakota State. The Bears broke open the game with a five-run seventh inning to extend their lead and secure the win.
Brandon Sanchez led Northern Colorado’s offense with four hits in five at-bats, scoring two runs and driving in two more. Jaden Stone contributed three hits and three runs batted in, while Sam Pease added two hits, two runs scored, and two RBI. Seven different players from Northern Colorado recorded at least one hit during the game.
On the pitching side, Reece Wagner started for Northern Colorado and earned the win after pitching five-and-two-thirds innings, allowing only two runs while striking out six batters. Gus Allred finished the game out of the bullpen with three-and-one-third innings pitched to pick up the save. North Dakota State managed to score twice late in the eighth inning but was unable to close the gap further.
Northern Colorado will continue its series against North Dakota State with a second game scheduled for Saturday afternoon. The team is also encouraging support through its Diamond Club initiative, which aims to provide facility enhancements such as improvements to Jackson Field Turf Project as well as technology upgrades for student-athletes.
