Northern Colorado Bears indoor track & field heads to New Mexico for two-day meet

The Northern Colorado Bears indoor track and field team is set to compete in a two-day meet in Albuquerque, New Mexico, hosted by the University of New Mexico on Friday, January 30, and Saturday, January 31.

In their previous competitions last weekend, the Bears participated in meets at the University of Colorado and UCCS. The men’s team saw Daniel Beckford finish second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.96 seconds. Johnny Fisher, Christopher Cheatham, and Edgar Garcia contributed strong performances in sprint events. On the women’s side at CU, three athletes reached the finals in the 60-meter hurdles. Sabina Stroia won the 1000 meters with a time of 3:10.15. Lucy Varela, Donice Bruno-Ezealah, and Sherika Thomas achieved marks that placed them among the program’s all-time bests.

At UCCS, Camaria Corder broke the school record in the triple jump with a leap of 13.01 meters and also recorded a No. 3 all-time mark in the long jump. Kiana Van Haaren secured victories in both the long jump and 60-meter preliminaries; her long jump performance now ranks second in program history. April Necaise took first place in the high jump, while Tyler Rogers moved up to third all-time for UNC men’s high jump with a clearance of 6-10.5.

For this weekend’s meet in Albuquerque, entries for men include Daniel Beckford (60m hurdles), Moise Bennett (60m hurdles), Christopher Cheatham (200m), Raphael Egbuchilem (400m, 4x400m relay), Johnny Fisher (60m, 4x400m relay), Edgar Garcia (60m, 200m, 4x400m relay), Digby Marshall (long jump), Tyler Rogers (high jump and long jump), and Rayvon Walkin (60m hurdles). Women’s entries are Alexia Austin (60m hurdles), Camaria Corder (triple jump), Donice Bruno-Ezealah (60m hurdles), Jaelynn Lane (triple jump), April Necaise (high jump), Monique Stewart (400m and 800m), Sabina Stroia (3000m), and Kiana Van Haaren (long jump).

The next event for Northern Colorado will be at the Colorado Classic hosted by the University of Colorado at Boulder’s Ford Practice Facility on February 6-7.
