Northern Colorado lost to Nevada, 6-1, on April 20 at Gloria Rodriguez Field in Greeley.
The game saw the Bears fall behind early after a strong third inning by the Wolf Pack. This loss comes as Northern Colorado prepares for its final conference series of the regular season.
Nevada took an early lead with a run in the second inning and broke open the game in the third with a two-out rally capped by Haylee Engelbrecht’s three-run home run, making it 4-0. The Bears responded in their half of the third when KK Christie hit a double and Katie Walling followed with an RBI double, cutting Nevada’s lead to 4-1. However, that was as close as Northern Colorado would get.
Nevada added two more runs in the fifth inning through a triple from Madison Clark and an RBI ground out. The Bears managed five hits during the afternoon from Christie, Walling, Amailee Morales, Ella Gonzales, and Baylie Kakallis but left runners on base during scoring opportunities in both the fourth and fifth innings. Pitcher Grace Algrim pitched all seven innings for UNC, allowing six runs on eight hits while striking out one batter.
Looking ahead, Northern Colorado will return to Big Sky play this weekend against Weber State at Gloria Rodriguez Field. Friday’s doubleheader will include Alumni Day and “Bears Supporting Bears,” while Saturday’s game will honor graduating seniors.
