Northern Colorado Bears will open their outdoor track and field season on March 28 at the Jack Christiansen Invitational, which will take place at the Jack Christiansen Track in Fort Collins, Colo., according to a March 26 announcement. The event is hosted by the Colorado State Rams and features a strong regional field.
The meet marks an important step for Northern Colorado as they transition from a successful indoor campaign. During the indoor season, several athletes set program records and achieved high conference-level performances, setting up expectations for continued progress outdoors.
Among the athletes to watch is Camaria Corder, who broke the program record in the triple jump multiple times during indoor competition and reached a mark of 13.01 meters (42-8.25). This achievement places her among the top performers in Big Sky Conference history heading into outdoor events. In sprints and hurdles, Daniel Beckford posted one of Northern Colorado’s fastest-ever times in the 60-meter hurdles indoors and now looks to compete strongly in the 110-meter hurdles this spring.
Field events remain an area of strength for Northern Colorado. Kiana Van Haaren recently moved up to second all-time indoors for long jump within school history and aims to continue her success outdoors. Tyler Rogers also stands out after consistently clearing heights between 2.03 meters and 2.06 meters in high jump during indoor meets.
The transition outdoors brings new opportunities for growth, especially in throwing events and longer hurdle races where team members seek to build on their previous achievements. Next weekend, some athletes will compete at Stanford while others head to the Jerry Quiller Classic at CU.
