Northern Colorado will begin Big Sky Conference play on March 27 as the Bears host Sacramento State for a three-game softball series at Gloria Rodriguez Field in Greeley.
The series marks the start of conference competition for Northern Colorado, which currently holds a 14-18 overall record. The games are scheduled to start with a doubleheader on Friday, beginning at 2 p.m. and followed by a second game at 4:30 p.m., with the final matchup set for Saturday at noon.
The Bears have demonstrated strong offensive performance this season, batting .296 as a team and accumulating 259 hits, including 55 doubles and 25 home runs over their first 32 games. Five regular starters are hitting above .300. Amailee Morales leads the team with a .429 average and has recorded 14 doubles, while Ella Gonzales follows with a .388 average and leads in RBIs with 24. Katie Walling is batting .380 with 20 RBIs, and Hayden Nelson has contributed seven home runs and driven in 22 runs.
In pitching, Anna Wilming leads Northern Colorado’s staff with six wins over 76 innings pitched. Grace Algrim has added three wins and three saves through nearly fifty-six innings of work.
Sacramento State arrives in Greeley holding a record of 21-11. The Hornets feature one of the top pitching staffs in the conference, posting a collective earned run average (ERA) of just over two runs per game while limiting opponents to an average below .250 at bat. Offensively, they have hit thirty-one home runs this season led by Lafulafu Malepeai’s eleven homers and twenty-eight RBIs.
After hosting Sacramento State, Northern Colorado will continue its conference schedule on the road against Montana from April 3 to April 4.
