Northern Colorado baseball lost the first game of a four-game series against New Mexico, falling 16-5 in Albuquerque. The Lobos built an early lead with five runs in the first inning and expanded their advantage with a seven-run fifth inning.
The Bears recorded nine hits during the game, showing some effectiveness at the plate despite the loss. Brett Barber and Jake Bullard each went 2-for-4, contributing to Northern Colorado’s offense. Easton Bryant also added two hits in three at-bats and scored once.
Jake Storey hit his first home run of the season for Northern Colorado, adding to their scoring efforts. Sam Pease reached base twice, going 1-for-2 with a run scored and drawing a walk.
Northern Colorado managed to score early but was unable to produce enough timely hits to keep up with New Mexico’s offense. On the mound, UNC pitchers faced difficulties as New Mexico collected 11 hits overall and took advantage of key opportunities, including a significant home run during their big fifth inning.
The Bears made one error while New Mexico played error-free defense.
