Northern Colorado lost to South Dakota State 21-10 on Mar. 28 in the second game of their baseball series, despite taking an early lead after strong performances at the plate.
The loss is significant for Northern Colorado as they look to rebound and claim the series against South Dakota State. The Bears initially took control with a three-run fourth inning, sparked by Mason Griffin’s two-RBI triple, followed by a six-run fifth that included a three-run home run from Brandon Sanchez. Griffin continued his offensive performance with another RBI in the sixth inning, giving Northern Colorado a 10-3 advantage.
Jake Storey started on the mound for Northern Colorado and pitched six innings, allowing three runs and striking out seven batters. However, momentum shifted late in the game when South Dakota State scored three runs in the seventh inning before breaking out for twelve more runs during an eighth-inning rally that saw sixteen Jackrabbits come to bat.
Griffin finished with three hits and four RBIs, including both a double and triple. Sanchez added three hits and drove in three runs with his home run, while Jaden Stone contributed two hits—including a triple—and scored twice.
Looking ahead, Northern Colorado will try to recover in game three of the series as they aim to secure a win against South Dakota State.
