Northern Colorado men’s basketball announced on Apr. 27 the addition of forward Kaidon Rayfield for the upcoming season.

Rayfield, a 6-foot-8 forward from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, joins the Bears after playing his freshman year at UTSA. During that season, he appeared in 26 games and started in 13, averaging 6.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game over a total of 517 minutes played. He recorded a field goal percentage of 39 percent and contributed with assists, blocks, and steals as well.

Before college, Rayfield was recognized as a three-star prospect by both 247Sports and Rivals while playing at PHH Prep in Arizona during his senior year. Rivals ranked him No. 27 at his position nationally. Prior to that, he attended Putnam City North High School in Oklahoma where ESPN rated him as a four-star prospect and named him the top player in the state.

In high school, Rayfield earned selection to The Oklahoman’s Super 5 third team after averaging strong numbers: sixteen points, eight rebounds, and two-and-a-half blocks per game during his junior season.

“We’re thrilled to add Kaidon Rayfield to our roster, and his commitment fills a huge need on our squad. As the portal closed and the dust settled with our returning players and our initial recruits, it was apparent that our greatest need would be bigger, versatile forwards to connect our roster together. Kaidon is a perfect fit for what our team needed! An extremely talented and highly recruited player out of high school, Kaidon had a great freshman season last year at UTSA in a premier conference, The American. His natural position for us will be the power forward position, but his skill level will allow him to play both forward spots on the perimeter, and his athleticism and size will allow him to compete all over the floor. Already an extremely productive college player, Kaidon’s upside and potential is through the roof, and we’re excited to work with him as he continues to develop! UNC, the city of Greeley, and all Northern Colorado will enjoy cheering Kaidon on next year with the Bears” said Head Coach Steve Smiley.
