Northern Colorado men’s basketball announced on May 19 the addition of Will Gordon, a guard from AZ Compass Prep, to its roster for the upcoming 2026–27 season.

The signing is significant as Gordon brings both skill and experience from successful high school programs. He averaged 18.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 steal per game while shooting 45 percent from the field during his senior year at AZ Compass Prep.

Gordon played a key role in leading AZ Compass Grind to back-to-back Canyon Athletic Association State Championships and previously won a state championship as a sophomore at San Tan Charter in Gilbert, Arizona.

“We’re thrilled to announce the addition of Will Gordon to our roster for this upcoming 2026 school year! Will fits the exact mold of what we were searching for in this final roster spot. We were hoping to get a bigger guard that can play multiple spots on both ends of the floor, and Will fits that exactly. A big guard that can shoot, is athletic, and loves to defend, Will is going to bring much-needed depth to our roster,” said Head Coach Steve Smiley. “Additionally, we always focus on recruiting from winning programs, and AZ Compass Prep is one of the most successful scholastic schools in the country, and we know Will has been in a winning environment in high school. With Will’s commitment, we believe our roster is complete and now we can focus on preparing for a great summer of workouts”.

Coach Peachje Howard from AZ Compass Grind also commented: “William Gordon is a 6’4 combo guard who can shoot the ball and jump out of the gym. He’s currently coming off his third straight state championship while attending the prestigious AZ Compass Prep. Off the floor Will is a stud – his ability to lead in the classroom and household is uncanny. William is committed to winning and making the most out of every opportunity that is set before him. He’s a firm believer in proper preparation preventing poor performance.”
