Northern Colorado men’s basketball secured a 104-63 win over Regis on Saturday night at Bank of Colorado Arena in Greeley. The Bears improved their record to 7-1, equaling their best start since the 2018-19 season.
The Bears took control early, starting with a 16-5 run in the first five minutes and expanding their lead to 25 points late in the first half. By halftime, Northern Colorado led 59-19 after shooting nearly 63 percent from the field and making 11 of 18 three-point attempts.
Ariik Mawien contributed significantly in the opening half, scoring 15 points without missing a shot. He ended the game with a career-high 17 points and seven made field goals. Quinn Denker also had a strong performance, finishing with a perfect shooting line for his 15 total points.
In the second half, freshman guard Tanner Braketa helped extend Northern Colorado’s advantage by hitting three three-pointers during one stretch. Braketa finished with career highs in points (14), field goals made (five), and threes made (four). Regis was unable to reduce the deficit below 41 points for the remainder of the game.
Sophomore forward Walker Asp made his collegiate debut for Northern Colorado, contributing across several categories including scoring three points and blocking two shots in twelve minutes of play. Will Humer led all players with eleven rebounds, while Hunter Caldwell set his own personal best with three rebounds.
Northern Colorado finished shooting over 56 percent from the field and more than half its attempts from beyond the arc, making twenty three-pointers—the most this season and second most in program history. The Bears’ bench scored fifty-six points and they outscored Regis by twenty in points off turnovers.
Regis was led by Dyland Forbord’s sixteen points as well as Matt Yost’s fifteen-point, eleven-rebound effort.
The Bears will next compete against Omaha on December 3 at Baxter Arena as part of the Big Sky-Summit Challenge.
