Northern Colorado Track and Field will compete in the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships beginning May 13, according to a May 11 announcement. The four-day event will be hosted by Portland State at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon.
The upcoming championship is significant as Northern Colorado enters with momentum from recent strong performances. Both the men’s and women’s teams showed depth at the Air Force Twilight Open, where athletes earned event wins, podium finishes, and several personal bests.
During their last competition, the women’s team swept the top three spots in the 100-meter hurdles led by Alexia Austin’s record-breaking time of 13.41 seconds. Donice Ezealah and Sherika Thomas followed closely behind. Monique Stewart won the 400 meters with a time of 55.17 seconds, while Caydence Brewer placed third in that event and finished second in the 200 meters. In field events, Kiana Van Haaren secured first place in long jump; Tamia John and Savanna Amack finished second and third respectively in triple jump.
Other notable performances included Camaria Corder’s fifth-place finish in the 100 meters, Vanessa Ward taking third place in the 400 hurdles, as well as Claire Nowels and Jessica Wilson finishing among the top six in the women’s 3000 meters. April Necaise and Ciara Piffarerio each cleared heights of 1.60 meters in high jump while Gwen Seelye placed ninth overall in javelin throw. On the men’s side, Tyler Rogers led a group of four Bears who finished within the top ten of their respective heats for sprint events.
