Northern Colorado secured a 6-4 win over UTSA on Sunday at Roadrunner Field to close out the Roadrunner Classic. The Bears started strong as Jazzy Longo hit a double and Amailee Morales followed with an RBI double, putting Northern Colorado ahead early. Although UTSA tied it with a solo home run in the first inning, the Bears regained momentum in the third.
Longo and Morales each singled, loading the bases after a walk. A wild pitch allowed another run before Hayden Nelson hit a three-run home run to center field, extending Northern Colorado’s lead to 5-1. Emma Harrington added to the score in the fourth with her first home run of the season.
UTSA responded with runs in both the fourth and fifth innings and threatened again late in the game after collecting 14 hits overall. Ellyse Hydock pitched four innings for Northern Colorado, giving up three runs while leaving key runners stranded. In relief, Aiyana Cordero finished out the final three innings to earn her first save of the year.
Morales led at bat, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Longo had two hits and scored twice; Nelson recorded three RBIs from her homer; Harrington’s solo shot provided insurance for Northern Colorado.
According to program records, Amailee Morales now ranks first all-time for doubles (49), home runs (29), RBIs (125), and walks (92) at Northern Colorado. She is also eighth in career hits (163), third in total bases (303), and sixth in putouts (674). In Big Sky Conference history, Morales is fifth all-time in doubles, tied for tenth in home runs, and sixth in walks.
