Northern Colorado split its Big Sky Conference softball doubleheader against Montana on April 3 at Grizzly Softball Stadium, losing the first game 10-0 before bouncing back with a 10-1 win in the second.

The results keep both teams competitive in conference standings and set up a decisive series finale. In the opening game, Montana broke open a close contest with an eight-run sixth inning to secure a run-rule victory. The Bears managed just three hits, recorded by KK Christie, Ella Gonzales, and Emma Harrington. Pitcher Anna Wilming limited Montana to two runs through five innings before the Grizzlies’ late surge.

In game two, Northern Colorado responded with a strong offensive showing. The Bears scored three runs in the second inning thanks to consecutive home runs from Krista Francia and Kenzie Carter. They added four more runs in the fifth inning behind Hayden Nelson’s three-run homer and sealed their win with three additional runs in the sixth. Francia led all hitters with three hits and four RBIs; Nelson contributed three RBIs as well, while Morales also collected three hits. Grace Algrim earned the win for Northern Colorado by allowing just one run on five hits over six innings and striking out five batters.

The teams will conclude their Big Sky series on Saturday, April 4, at Grizzly Softball Stadium with first pitch scheduled for noon Mountain Daylight Time.
