Northern Colorado split a doubleheader against Pacific on March 14 at Bill Simoni Field in Stockton, California, dropping the first game 4-3 before winning the second 3-1.
The results mark an even start to the series for Northern Colorado, with both teams showing strong performances on the field. The Bears will conclude their series with Pacific on Sunday.
In the opening game, Northern Colorado took an early lead by scoring two runs in the first inning. Pacific responded quickly and gained control with two runs in the third inning and another in the fifth. Despite a late push from Northern Colorado, which included a three-hit effort from Ella Gonzales and RBIs from Katie Walling, Krista Francia, and Hayden Nelson, they fell short by one run. Anna Wilming pitched six innings for Northern Colorado, allowing four runs and striking out four batters.
The Bears rebounded in game two behind Grace Algrim’s complete-game performance. Algrim allowed only four hits and one unearned run while striking out five. Offensively, Katie Walling led with three hits while Krista Francia contributed two hits and an RBI as Northern Colorado secured a 3-1 victory.
The final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday at Bill Simoni Field with first pitch set for 1 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time (12 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time).
Looking ahead, both teams will aim to build on their performances as they wrap up the weekend series.
