Northern Colorado’s baseball team split a doubleheader against Utah Valley on Saturday in Orem, Utah. In the first game, Northern Colorado posted 17 hits and won 14–3 after a strong start that included three runs in the first inning and seven more in the second to take a 10–0 lead. Utah Valley scored once in the second and twice in the third, but Northern Colorado’s pitching held them scoreless for the rest of the game.

Logan Pruski led Northern Colorado at the plate with three hits, including a double, and four RBIs. Zeke Minic went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Jaden Stone also had three hits and drove in two runs. Mason Griffin contributed two hits—including a double—and two RBIs, while Brett Barber added two hits and an RBI.

Gus Allred was credited with the win for Northern Colorado, improving his record to 1–1 this season. He pitched 2.1 innings, allowing three runs on two hits and striking out three batters. Trevor Landen finished the game with 4.2 innings of relief, giving up just two hits and striking out four.

In game two of the doubleheader, Northern Colorado struggled offensively as Utah Valley won 12–1. The Bears recorded only two hits and struck out 11 times. Storey took the loss after allowing eight runs (four earned) over 3.2 innings while striking out six batters. Logan Moser pitched 1.1 innings of relief, giving up two runs, followed by Tate Smith who allowed another two runs in one inning.

Northern Colorado’s only run came from designated hitter Easton Bryant’s RBI single in the third inning; Wilson Kieffer had their other hit late in the game as a pinch hitter.

Despite difficulties at bat, Northern Colorado drew six walks during game two—Brandon Sanchez and Jaden Stone each walked twice—and both Sanchez and Bryant stole bases.

The series continues Sunday with another matchup between Northern Colorado and Utah Valley scheduled for noon Mountain Time.
