Northern Colorado advanced several athletes to the finals during day three of the 2026 Big Sky Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 15, with multiple podium finishes at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon.
The event saw strong performances from both the men’s and women’s teams. Tyler Rogers finished second in the men’s long jump with a mark of 7.38 meters, earning eight team points. Kiana Van Haaren matched this result for the women, clearing 5.90 meters to also secure eight points for Northern Colorado.
On the track, Monique Stewart won her heat in the women’s 800 meters with a time of 2:07.42, automatically qualifying for the final and ranking fourth all-time in school history for that event. Alexia Austin also qualified for a final by running a time of 13.67 seconds in the women’s 100-meter hurdles.
Raphael Egbuchilem progressed to finals in both sprint events after posting times of 47.55 seconds in the men’s 400 meters and 21.55 seconds in the men’s 200 meters. In hurdles events, Daniel Beckford led Northern Colorado by advancing in both the men’s 110-meter hurdles (14.21) and supporting other teammates moving forward; Jaydon Sundbye also secured qualification in that event.
Regina Mpigachai earned a spot in Saturday’s women’s 1500-meter final after clocking a qualifying time of 4:40.91 during Friday’s competition.
Additional contributions came from April Necaise, who placed ninth overall with her performance of 1.63 meters in the women’s high jump.
Northern Colorado is set to close out its participation at these championships on Saturday as several athletes prepare to compete across various track and field finals.
