Northern Colorado continued competition at the 2026 Big Sky Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 15, with several athletes advancing to event finals and earning podium finishes at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon.
The event is significant as it showcases the progress of Northern Colorado’s track and field program, with multiple athletes qualifying for championship rounds and scoring points for their team.
Tyler Rogers led the men’s team by finishing second in the long jump with a mark of 7.38 meters, earning eight points. On the women’s side, Kiana Van Haaren also secured a runner-up finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.90 meters, contributing another eight points for Northern Colorado.
On the track, Monique Stewart won her heat in the women’s 800 meters with a time of 2:07.42 to automatically qualify for the final. Alexia Austin advanced to the women’s 100-meter hurdles final after posting a time of 13.67 seconds. In men’s sprints, Raphael Egbuchilem qualified for both the men’s 400 meters (47.55) and later advanced in the men’s 200 meters (21.55).
Daniel Beckford moved forward in both men’s hurdle events by qualifying in the 110-meter hurdles (14.21), while Jaydon Sundbye also secured a spot in that event’s next round.
Regina Mpigachai reached qualification standards for Saturday’s women’s 1500-meter final after running a time of 4:40.91 during preliminary rounds.
In field events beyond podium placements, April Necaise finished ninth overall in women’s high jump by clearing a height of 1.63 meters.
Stewart’s performance was notable as her time ranks fourth all-time at Northern Colorado in the women’s 800 meters.
The championships will conclude on Saturday when more Northern Colorado athletes are set to compete across various event finals.
