Northern Colorado Track and Field completed its regular season campaign with a strong performance at the Air Force Twilight Open on May 8, featuring multiple event wins, podium finishes, and notable depth in both track and field events.
The competition saw Northern Colorado’s women’s team excel in hurdles, where Alexia Austin led a sweep of the top three spots in the 100-meter hurdles with a winning time of 13.41 seconds, breaking her own record. Donice Ezealah finished second (14.25), followed by Sherika Thomas in third (14.77). Monique Stewart secured first place in the 400 meters with a time of 55.17 seconds. Caydence Brewer contributed with a third-place finish in the same event (56.86) and took second place in the 200 meters (24.53).
In field events, Kiana Van Haaren won the long jump with a mark of 6.15 meters while Sally Gould placed fourth (5.52m) and also competed in the 200 meters. The Bears earned additional podiums in triple jump through Tamia John’s second-place result (11.65m) and Savanna Amack’s third-place finish (11.20m). Other highlights included Camaria Corder finishing fifth in the women’s 100 meters (12.34), Vanessa Ward placing third in the women’s 400 hurdles (1:02.59), as well as Claire Nowels and Jessica Wilson finishing fifth and sixth respectively in the women’s 3000 meters.
April Necaise cleared 1.60 meters to finish fourth in high jump alongside Ciara Piffarerio who placed sixth at that height; Gwen Seelye was ninth overall for javelin with a throw of 33.45 meters.
On the men’s side, four Bears finished among the top ten competitors for the men’s 100-meter dash: Tyler Rogers was third overall at 10.59 seconds; Jaymison Whicmann came fifth (10.79); Johnny Fisher was seventh (10.86); Maxwell Streufert rounded out their group by taking tenth place at an even time of 11:24.
Looking ahead to conference tournament competition, Northern Colorado will aim to build on its recent successes across sprints, hurdles, jumps, and distance races.
