Northern Colorado women’s basketball defeated Air Force 79–72 at Clune Arena on March 19 in the first round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).
The win marks a strong start to postseason play for Northern Colorado, as the team relied on efficient offense and dominance in the paint to secure victory. The Bears shot over 64 percent from the field in the opening quarter, building an early lead that they maintained throughout much of the game.
Tatum West led Northern Colorado with a double-double, scoring 22 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. This performance marked her tenth double-double of the season. Neenah George contributed 19 points and four assists, helping provide consistent scoring for the Bears.
Northern Colorado extended its lead to as many as 15 points during the third quarter, finishing with a shooting percentage of 60 percent from the field and making seven three-pointers. Despite a late push by Air Force that narrowed the gap to one possession with under three minutes left, Northern Colorado responded with key plays and free throws to maintain their advantage.
The Bears outscored Air Force 42–24 in points in the paint and held a rebounding edge of 34–29. With this win, Northern Colorado advances to face South Dakota in Vermillion on Sunday, March 22 at noon Mountain Daylight Time.
