The Northern Colorado women’s basketball team began the Big Sky–Summit League Challenge with a 72–59 win over Kansas City at Bank of Colorado Arena on Wednesday night. The Bears overcame a slow start, scoring only eight points in the first quarter and trailing by five at the end of the period.
In the second quarter, Northern Colorado improved its offensive play, with Tatum West making key contributions inside. By halftime, the Bears were behind 34-27.
After halftime, Northern Colorado increased its defensive pressure and moved the ball effectively on offense. The team outscored Kansas City 23–13 in the third quarter to take a 50–46 lead into the final period.
The Bears maintained their performance in the fourth quarter and secured the victory. The win brings their season record to 7–2.
Four players from Northern Colorado scored in double figures. Tatum West led with her third double-double of the season, finishing with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Aniah Hall scored 15 points and had three rebounds, Gabi Fields added 13 points, and Neenah George contributed 12 points.
Northern Colorado shot 42.3 percent from the field as a team, collected 35 rebounds, and recorded 15 assists.
The Bears will next play Omaha in Nebraska for game two of the Big Sky – Summit League Challenge. Tip-off is scheduled for noon Mountain Time.
