Northern Colorado women’s basketball faced the University of Colorado in Boulder on Tuesday night for a non-conference game. The Bears, now 8–3 this season, lost to their Big 12 opponent despite maintaining high intensity throughout the match.
The game began with both teams applying strong defensive pressure. Northern Colorado managed to disrupt Colorado’s offense early by forcing turnovers and contesting shots. At the first media timeout, the Bears trailed by two points, 7–5. Neenah George led Northern Colorado’s offense as they continued to find scoring opportunities but ended the first quarter down 14–11.
George started the second quarter with a pull-up jumper to keep momentum for her team. However, Colorado responded with a scoring run that extended their lead to 25–15 and forced a timeout from Northern Colorado. The Buffaloes continued to build their advantage inside and pushed ahead 40–19 before Heather Baymon scored three free throws late in the half. At halftime, Colorado led 40–22, with Baymon leading the Bears with seven points. Northern Colorado shot 45 percent from the field during the first half.
Colorado opened the third quarter with quick baskets, prompting another early timeout from Northern Colorado. The Bears answered with consecutive scores and created turnovers but still entered the final period trailing 58–38.
In the fourth quarter, Northern Colorado went on a brief run, outscoring Colorado 7–2 in the opening minutes. However, Colorado regained control by converting shots at the rim and making free throws. Despite a late rally by Northern Colorado, they were unable to close the gap.
