Northern Colorado women’s basketball lost a close game to Eastern Washington, 55–53, on March 9 during the Big Sky Conference Women’s Basketball Championship at Idaho Central Arena in Boise.
The result ends a milestone season for the Bears, who reached their first 20-win campaign since 2018–19 and achieved the most wins under current head coach Kristen Mattio. The game was tightly contested throughout, with Northern Colorado leading by 11 points at halftime before Eastern Washington mounted a comeback in the second half.
Heather Baymon led Northern Colorado with 14 points, including four three-pointers off the bench. Neenah George and Gabi Fields each contributed 11 points. Tatum West set a new program single-game record with 18 rebounds and moved into fourth place on the all-time rebounding list for Northern Colorado. Despite holding a slight edge in rebounding and limiting Eastern Washington to under 36 percent shooting from the field, the Bears were unable to convert in the final seconds after Baymon’s late three-pointer brought them within two points.
Several players reached career milestones during this season. Gabi Fields finished her career tied for sixth in games played (124), second in games started, and second all-time in career steals (255). Aniah Hall ended her time at Northern Colorado tied for sixth in games played (123), ranked thirteenth all-time in rebounds (628), sixth in blocks (94), and joined the program’s 1,000-point scoring club. Junior forward Tatum West also climbed several statistical categories this year, including setting a single-season offensive rebound record (126) and ranking seventh for single-season steals (66).
