Northern Colorado women’s basketball will host Kansas City in the opening game of the Big Sky–Summit League Challenge at Bank of Colorado Arena on Wednesday, December 3. The Bears approach this matchup after a strong win over Chadron State, which highlighted their offensive abilities and team depth.
Heather Baymon led Northern Colorado with a career-high 23 points against Chadron State, making 9-of-14 shots from the field. “Her aggressiveness, paired with efficient shot selection, gave the Bears a consistent offensive anchor throughout the game,” according to the team.
Tatum West contributed her second double-double of the season and continues to provide stability for Northern Colorado on both offense and defense. Six players scored in double figures during the Chadron State game, reflecting the team’s balanced scoring approach.
Through eight games this season, Northern Colorado is averaging 76.9 points per game while shooting 44.9% from the field. The team also averages 15.9 assists and 40.8 rebounds per game.
Nationally, Gabi Fields is ranked No. 16 in assist-to-turnover ratio. As a team, Northern Colorado ranks No. 8 in bench points per game, No. 20 in offensive rebounds per game, tied for No. 30 in turnovers forced per game, No. 36 in steals per game, and No. 47 in scoring margin.
The last meeting between Northern Colorado and Kansas City was in 2017 when UNC won 88–73; however, Kansas City leads the all-time series 2–1.
Kansas City enters Wednesday’s contest with a record of 2–5 and seeks to end a two-game losing streak after falling to Austin Peay by a score of 66–46. Sophomore guard Eani Bennett leads Kansas City offensively with an average of 16.8 points per game across seven games.
