Northern Colorado women’s basketball team won the WellNow Blue Demon Classic, defeating DePaul 49-48 in Chicago on Saturday. The victory improved Northern Colorado’s record to 5-1, marking its best start since the 2016-17 season.
The game was close throughout. DePaul led by five points after the first quarter and held a narrow lead at halftime, with Northern Colorado trailing by just one point. In the third quarter, DePaul extended its advantage to five points again, but Northern Colorado kept pace.
In the fourth quarter, the Bears increased their defensive pressure and drew a key offensive foul late in the game. Heather Baymon made a three-pointer with 30 seconds left to cut DePaul’s lead to one point. With less than a second remaining, Neenah George scored on a drive after an offensive rebound, giving Northern Colorado the lead.
Tatum West recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Both West and Gabi Fields were named to the All-Tournament Team. Baymon and George also reached double figures in scoring; George contributed five assists as well.
Northern Colorado will next play against Arizona in Tucson on Tuesday, November 25 at 6 p.m. MST.
