Northern Colorado women’s basketball team achieved its fifth consecutive win on Saturday, defeating Sacramento State at Bank of Colorado Arena in Greeley. The victory brings the Bears’ overall record to 14–5 and improves their conference standing to 5–1. At home, they now hold an 8–2 record.
Heather Baymon led the scoring with 24 points, shooting 8-of-16 from the field. Tatum West contributed 15 points, and Aniah Hall added 14 points to support the team’s performance throughout the game.
The opening quarter was marked by defensive intensity from both teams, resulting in a low-scoring start. Northern Colorado’s defense held Sacramento State to seven points in the first period, giving the Bears a 15–7 advantage after one quarter.
In the second quarter, Northern Colorado increased its lead by capitalizing on transition opportunities and drawing fouls. By halftime, they led Sacramento State 27–19. Baymon had scored ten points by this point, while Hall made all four of her free throw attempts.
After halftime, Baymon continued to drive the offense using off-ball screens for open shots. The Bears extended their lead to ten points by the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, efficient ball movement and consistent defense prevented Sacramento State from mounting a comeback. Northern Colorado managed time effectively and secured key free throws late in the game.
The team will next play against Montana State in Bozeman on Monday night at 7 p.m. MST.
