WELD COUNTY: County's first roundabout close to completion

Ribbon cut

Weld County issued the following announcement on Aug. 6.

After eight months of construction, the first roundabout on a county road is close to completion. The project, located at WCR 54 (Freedom Parkway) and WCR 17, is on time, on budget and marks the first in-house designed roundabout project for the county’s public works team.

Originally slated as a county project in the 2017 Public Works 5-year Capital Improvement Plan, construction began December 2019 and is slated to be completed next month.

The project cost is anticipated to be $10.8 million, with $1 million coming from a Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) grant. The acquisition of right of way and easements, utility relocation and irrigation replacement were crucial in this project, and the coordination among landowners, utility companies and the county was greatly appreciated.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at the roundabout on Friday, August 7, at 11:00 a.m. in celebration and acknowledgment of the work done by county staff and contractors.

The actual opening of the roundabout to traffic will occur in mid-August as crews finish up a few remaining items on the project.
