WELD COUNTY: September proclaimed National Preparedness Month

Announcement

Weld County issued the following announcement on Sept. 9.

September is National Preparedness Month, and the Weld County Board of Commissioners reminds residents about the importance of preparing for various types of disasters and emergencies in homes, businesses and communities.

“Emergencies can be small or large in scale and can range from power outages, to water supply issues, to floods, to snowstorms, to a pandemic,” said Commissioner Chair Mike Freeman. “Regardless of size or the cause, it is crucial for people to prepare to keep their family and their homes safe.”

According to Roy Rudisill, Weld County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) Director, being prepared for any emergency comes down to a few simple things.

“Make sure you have the necessary items to be self-sufficient for up to three days. Food, water, medications, pet food … whatever, and do it before an event,” Rudisill said. “Also, make sure your flashlights, backup generators and batteries are working. Don’t wait to try them when the power goes out or a tornado is barreling toward your residence.”
