WELD COUNTY: Accepting applications for new advisory committee

Announcement

Weld County issued the following announcement on Sept. 16.

Weld County is seeking seven individuals to serve on a brand-new advisory committee.

The new Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Advisory Committee will consist of representatives from the housing, nonprofit and business sectors, including someone representing low- and moderate-income persons, as well as individuals from municipalities participating in the CDBG program. The advisory committee will be responsible for reviewing community improvement project applications submitted by municipalities and the county with the CDBG program manager. The committee will also make recommendations to the board regarding community development issues and allocations of funds for proposed CDBG projects.

It’s anticipated the time commitment to serve on this committee will be six hours split between two meetings per year. Individuals interested in serving on the CDBG Advisory Committee can apply at https://www.weldgov.com/government/boards_and_commissions/current_openings. The deadline to apply is October 4, 2020.

This committee will also serve as a review body to counsel, advise and deliberate with CDBG staff about the Consolidated Plan which will help secure funding through an entitlement allocation from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. An entitlement allocation is given to counties considered to be urban — meaning a population of 200,000 or more. Weld County has more than 300,000 residents. Allocation for the county is expected to be received in early 2021, at an annual estimated entitlement of approximately $1 million.

In June, the county secured Intergovernmental Agreements (IGAs) with 25 of its municipalities to meet the required threshold to receive CDBG Entitlement funds. These funds are to implement community improvement projects and allocate program funds accordingly. Projects may include improvements to and implementation of water systems, streets, community centers, food banks, shelters, health clinics, etc.
