MORGAN COMMUNITY COLLEGE: MCC Jazz Ensemble Virtual Concert- Jazz in Modern Times

Musicfestival

Morgan Community College issued the following announcement on Dec. 10.

Morgan Community College’s (MCC’s) Jazz Ensemble celebrated the season with a streamed concert on December 13, 2020. The theme of the concert is Jazz in Modern Times, and featured holiday favorites such as “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” and “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve”, along with music from modern jazz legends like Weather Report, John Coltrane, Miles Davis and more. The concert begun at 6 PM.

The MCC Jazz Ensemble has been directed by Nicholas Booker since 2017. During Booker’s time as Director, his focus has been to make the band a key source of music in Morgan County and increase its influence throughout Colorado and beyond. In 2019, the MCC Jazz Ensemble worked with award-winning jazz composer Elliott Turner to create a video of the world premiere of his piece, “Glenn Miller Strut”. During spring 2020, the MCC Jazz Ensemble produced a video recording of Colorado composer Sean Hedding’s “Jubilo Swing”. The Jazz in Modern Times Concert is yet another opportunity to share the band’s musical artistry and ability.

“2020 has been a tricky year for the MCC Jazz Ensemble, as it has been for everyone. Our winter concert is the first attempt at an online concert experience,” stated Booker. “It been an excellent opportunity for people listening from their homes in Morgan County, throughout Colorado, and across the country to tune in together and see what Morgan Community College music is all about!”

The Jazz in Modern Times concert is free and open to the public. The MCC Jazz Ensemble is a for-credit class through Morgan Community College and is affiliated with MCC’s Center for Arts and Community Enrichment (CACE).
