Ganahl, Lopez will vie for GOP gubernatorial nomination

Heidi

Akron News Reporter recently issued the following announcement.

Heidi Ganahl and Greg Lopez each emerged Saturday among a field of nine candidates seeking a place on the Republican primary ballot for governor, and the opportunity to face Gov. Jared Polis in the general election.

Lopez compiled 1,281 of 3,730 Republican Party delegate votes to earn 34.3 percent support and the top place on the ballot. Ganahl trailed by just 64 votes and took 32.6 percent support to also earn a place on the ballot. Candidates qualify for the ballot either by earning 30 percent of delegate support at the party assembly or by petitioning onto the ballot.

“The people of Colorado deserve a strong and compassionate governor who listens to all the diverse sectors that make up our awesome state,” Lopez said in a statement following assembly. “My administration will ensure that the citizenry’s freedoms are protected by limiting the power of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and DORA.”

The only statewide elected Republican currently serving is Ganahl, she told delegates.

“I am thrilled with the outpouring of support. The energy in the arena fueled me with the energy to take on Jared Polis this November, and win,” Ganahl said. “I have won against far-left liberals before, and I will do it again!”

Lopez contended that while Colorado has 64 counties, Colorado should also have a governor who serves all 64 counties, including work toward issues of importance to them. Lopez pledged that should he be elected governor he would reduce regulations.

His campaign has traveled the state listening to Coloradans of varying backgrounds, he shared, and he is supportive of police and of more parental control of schools.

“Just a few years ago, Heidi proved she has what it takes to beat Jared Polis and his far-left liberal friends when she beat Alice Madden for CU Regent,” said Ganahl’s Communications Director Lexi Swearingen. “Heidi is a ‘Mom on a Mission’ whose message of big, bold action has resonated with the delegates at the assembly, as well as the more than 16,000 registered Republicans who signed their names to get her on the ballot.”

Ganahl has the support of Weld County Sheriff Steve Reams and former U.S. Attorney Jason Dunn, her campaign noted, as a law and order candidate. Ganahl has pledged to lower crime rates through respect of law enforcement, enforcing sentencing, removing PR bonds and Saturday said she would fire the parole board.

Both candidates have offered their support of small business and broad-based energy solutions to lower prices.

“The Lopez Administration will work with the oil and gas industry to produce our own gas to reduce the energy costs for all Coloradans,” Lopez said. “The two-cent additional fee on every gallon of gas that is set to go into effect in January 2023 will be delayed. And I will do everything in my power to see that never happens. I will fight to ensure that you keep more of your hard-earned money by removing all government fees and protecting the Taxpayers Bill of Rights.”

Added Swearingen: “Key to lowering our cost of living is getting our energy workers back to work. Heidi will be a voice for rural Colorado. She believes in an all-of-the above energy policy that unleashes our natural resource production while also encouraging renewables.”

She pledged to cut the gas tax in half if elected.

Both candidates shared some of their experiences with delegates which they say lend to their ability to serve as governor.

“I was able to articulate my experience both as a former strong mayor and the director of the small business administration as it pertains to the future of Colorado,” Lopez said. “Under no uncertain terms is the governor’s office a venue for on-the-job training.”

Ganahl’s campaign noted she has started charter schools in the state, including one in her hometown after becoming upset with her children’s public school curriculum. About 700 students were prepared to enroll in the Boulder school, she says, before Jared Polis denied the charter.

She is also known for turning a passion for animals into the largest pet care franchise in America. Ganahl has also overseen a $5 billion budget at the University of Colorado, Swearingen said.

“She knows how to cut red tape and will lower taxes whenever possible,” Swearingen added. “We need new ideas and a fresh perspective to beat Jared Polis. We need someone with the grit and tenacity to hold Jared Polis accountable for his failed liberal policies. We need someone that can unite Republicans and attract the 42 percent of undecided voters in our state. We need a winner with a proven record, and that person is Heidi Ganahl.”
