WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo, M.D. (CO-08) on June 14 released the following statement after voting for two measures Speaker McCarthy painstakingly put on the floor to protect gas stoves including the Gas Stove Protection And Freedom Act and the Save Our Gas Stoves Act.

“Hardworking families in Colorado are struggling with high costs, inaccessible healthcare, and uncertainty around whether our kids will have the opportunities they need and deserve. It’s disappointing to see that Mr. McCarthy is more focused on culture wars over gas stoves than on legislation that will address these very serious and urgent problems. I do not support limiting consumer choice around their preferred stovetop. But it’s time we now move on to addressing the pocketbook issues our constituents care about.”

Congresswoman Dr. Caraveo is a first generation American whose parents immigrated to Colorado from Chihuahua. She has served Colorado families as a pediatrician for over a decade and as a member of the state House. She is now the first Latina congressperson in Colorado’s history and the first representative of CO-08, Colorado’s newest congressional seat. She serves on the House Agriculture and House Science, Space, & Technology Committees.
