WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo, M.D. (CO-08) released the following statement after being named to the House Agriculture Committee’s bipartisan Agriculture Labor Working Group:
“Agriculture workers are the lifeblood of our food supply chain – without them, we wouldn’t have food on our dinner tables every night. I’m proud to have spent my time in the State House advocating for our farm workers. I now look forward to working on the bipartisan Agriculture Labor Working Group, where we will come together to find common ground solutions that support industry needs and address the labor issues our farmers and producers face.”
Members of the working group have been selected from current House Agriculture Committee. The working group will:
- Seek input from stakeholders, employers, and workers, particularly emphasizing the H-2A visa program for nonimmigrant agricultural workers.
- Produce an interim report detailing the program's shortcomings and the impacts on food security.
- File a final report with recommendations to address the flaws within the program.
Congresswoman Dr. Caraveo is a first generation American whose parents immigrated to Colorado from Chihuahua.
