The University of Northern Colorado announced on March 13 that its home opening baseball game against St. Thomas has been canceled because of poor air quality in the Greeley area. The teams will now play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 14, with the first game starting at 11 a.m. and the second beginning about 40 minutes after the first concludes.
The change was made after high Air Quality Index (AQI) levels were reported in the region, prompting concerns for player and spectator safety. Adjusting the schedule allows both teams to complete their series while minimizing exposure to unhealthy conditions.
The university also highlighted the role of its Diamond Club in supporting facility enhancements and daily operations for UNC Baseball. The club helps fund projects such as improvements to Jackson Field and provides resources for student-athletes.
